Groundwater quality was
evaluated through ten springs draining relatively small underground basins in the vicinity
of the city.
Spring water was checked on a monthly basis for temperature, pH,
oxygen and electrical conductivity (EC). Where possible, spring discharge was also
measured. Additionally the springs were sampled twice during base flow conditions (minimum
dilution) and during peak flow (maximum dilution).
Results suggested a general connectivity to recent anthropogenic
activities and their contamination potential, two springs indicated direct sewage impact.
